Prof. Sylvanus Okogbenin

Prof. Sylvanus Akhalufo Okogbenin is a consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital and a Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the Ambrose Alli University. He is a Specialist in Materno Fetal Medicine and is currently the Chief Medical Director of Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, the centre of excellence in the diagnosis, management and control of Lassa fever.
Prof. Okogbenin is also actively involved in the clinical management of patients and has championed pioneering research amongst pregnant women infected with the Lassa fever virus.
Prof. Okogbenin has authored several papers in both national and international journals. He is a grantee of the John D and Catherine T foundation of Chicago, Consultant to the International Development Research Centre, Canada. He is currently collaborating with the Department of Orgasmic and evolutionary Biology, Havard University Boston and with the Bernard Nocht Institute of Tropical Medicine Hamburg on research projects on the clinical and the pathogenesis of the Lassa fever virus.
